hoooooweeeee

wow, it's been a while. a month, really? i am an LJ slacker. deal with it!

well, since i've last updated, my summer research internship has ended. had to do a presentation in this really intimidating conference room with 30-foot ceilings and a podium (gasp!), in front of about 30 people. it went well though, which made me happy. AND i got a t-shirt that says "i got USURP-ed by research!" (the name of the internship was the Utah Summer Undergraduate Research Program). *nerd giggles*

and this past week i was in florida--key west, specifically--to chill with my dad and my sisters and my dad's soon-to-be wife (whom he almost married a few years ago, if anyone remembers that.) we took a jet-ski tour around the island, went scuba diving (saw a shark! well, i didn't, but everyone else did, so it counts, sorta. apparently it was about 5 or 6 feet long, just hanging out in the 6- or 7-feet-deep water we were in. crikey, what a beauty! *adopts croc hunter accent*), and lounged by the pool. i had a margarita at THE margaritaville, oh yes, and now i am peely but bronzed, after a lab-induced summer of whiteness. eee! i saw my dad's new dog too! she's sooo purdy. her name is sweetie (*gag*, how lame--but that's the name she was given, so i guess she's stuck with it), she's a 3-year-old brindle greyhound, and she's huge for a female greyhound, according to my grandmother who has owned at least 3 greyhounds in her lifetime. she is a retired racetrack dog, so she's really timid and stands perfectly still when you go to pet her, but she's learning how to play, which is most lovely. she's a sweetheart. i'll post pictures soon.

reading Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. it's very excellent so far. if you liked One Hundred Years of Solitude, you'll like this. (side comment: is it weird that i just couldn't go without capitalizing and italicizing those book titles, even though i don't capitalize anything else? i am freaky. super freaky.) maybe i'll write something else soon, but i'd say, based on past patterns, it don't seem too likely. adios.

u have been USURPED... somehow that makes me think of "i smote you upon the mountainside!"

duuuude, i remember liking that book a lot, although i can't remember what it was abooot. good for you with the summer research, are you going to use it for thesis?

also on greyhounds... my grandparents (dad's parents) have always had greyhounds or whippets (smaller version), and they're really funny/sweet. They run freakin' fast though, it's true. And just because I *had* to mention it, did you know Erica's creeped out by greyhounds? First year we attacked her computer and put pictures all over her screensaver of greyhounds, which resulted in Erica putting a password on her computer (Gandalf?) to keep us out. Hehehehe we're eeeevil.

no, i don't think i can use my summer research as my thesis, because i wasn't involved in the project design aspect of it at all. bummer.

yeah, i was walking sweetie at one point, and i attempted to make her run, but my sprinting only made her walk *slightly* faster.

heehee, oh poor erica. greyhounds are abnormally pointy dogs, so i don't blame her for being creeped out. =)
